The VMS Systems Administrator is a major resource for all VMS-related projects and tasks. This role involves being a knowledgeable resource on general VMS issues, as well as typically performing operating system level operations. The individual in this position will report to the Director of Technical Services. This is a position with ever-evolving tasks, projects, and responsibilities. It requires someone with a flexible and dynamic approach to problem solving and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and priorities. In this fast-paced environment, a highly motivated and independent achiever is a must. Job Responsibilities: · Hands-on interaction with internal users at all levels, chiefly in the Development and Support Departments · Maintain ongoing reliability of machines running a large and varied number of VMS machines (VAX, Alpha, Itanium) · Installation and/or upgrading operating systems, as well as installing ECO's, as requested or needed · Maintain or assist in maintaining (with the VMS Systems Manager) the Release Engineering, Systems Development, QD, and Support VMS clusters · Occasional weekend and/or evening work when dealing with critical system upgrades or problem resolution Requirements Job Qualifications: · Bachelor's Degree from a top echelon school · 10-15 Years experience administering VMS systems. This should include installations and upgrades, preferably in a software development environment · Advanced knowledge of the VMS subsystems: Account mgmt; batch and print queues; VMSinstall, Polycenter, DECnet,, SYSGEN (tuning), performance monitoring, and troubleshooting tools and techniques · Understanding of C, C++, for compiler debugging issues a plus · Advanced expertise in DCL (Digital Command Language) scripts; some exposure to Unix scripts · Detailed knowledge of TCPIP management, HP and third-party (Multinet, TCPware) · Experience installing hardware on Alpha and Itanium systems · Experience with and understanding of SAN disk subsystems in a VMS environment · Detailed knowledge of standard backup techniques and procedures (BACKUP/COPY); some experience with robot tape libraries and their VMS client software · Familiarity with Windows 2000/XP/Vista in a mixed VMS/windows network environment Candidates must be eligible to work in the US - H1B transfers OK. Local area candidates preferred - no relocation assistance.
